UKAFF: The Unexpected

The Unexpected tells two stories linked by chance and unforeseen consequences, each marked by a roll of a dice. In 'Mirror in the Water', a fading author with dementia confronts love, ambition, and regret as he nears the end of his life—culminating in an unexpected fate. In 'The Poisonous', a London executive plots quiet revenge against a deceitful antique dealer, where a subtle incident hints at eerie, ambiguous retribution. Together, the film explores fate, choice, and the unpredictability of human lives. The screening with be followed by a conversation with the cast. Annual UK Asian Film Festival, organised by Tongues on Fire, from 1 May to 10 May 2026, is in its 28th year. The Festival celebrates powerful cinema from South Asia and its diaspora, uniting bold storytelling and diverse voices under this year’s theme, 'Stories That Bind Us'. Tongues on Fire is a charity, who provides a platform for independent film and arts with a link to South Asia. We “give wings to South Asian roots,” celebrating South Asian culture, its vibrancy and its many dimensions through storytelling, live events, masterclasses and cinema screenings. The company provides a platform for emerging talent to showcase their work, offers networking opportunities with industry leaders, and provides wider learning opportunities for the filmmaking community.DramaPT2H182026-05-03
