LIVE CONCERT - FREE ENTRY: Saskia Leigh Martić
After the release of her debut film Fitting Room, Saskia Leigh Martić brings you the music from the Fitting Room Live EP. Having written original music for the conclusive gig scene in her film, performed on-screen by actress Ella Oddie-James, Martić has decided to perform these songs herself for the first time, for ActOne. Her EP, a collaboration with the band that will accompany her on the 24th of October, draws on both indie-folk and rock music that perfectly frames the dramatic emotions of a coming-of-age tale. Saskia Leigh Martić first took up songwriting following a brief stint of guitar lessons at age 15 and continued to independently write and produce her own music for the better part of a decade. Her writing style is most notable, with melancholic riffs and free-flowing lyrics that proceed her freestyle-like process. She aims to write an album within a year, incorporating some Balkan influences to pay homage to her Eastern European heritage. Her filmmaking style is less free-form and draws from very solid cinematic influences from Meirelles to Matsumoto. Her double win at the 2022 BFI Moving Image Awards instilled in her a hope that she could be a filmmaker, something she had not fathomed before, coming from a humble South East London background.
