Hong Kong Film Festival: A Taste of Connection: Sweets and Stories from Hong Kong and Japan
Hong Kong Film Festival UK (HKFF) returns for its third edition from 12–28 September in London, presenting reflective, boundary-shifting cinema from Hong Kong and the ESEA diaspora. This year’s programme foregrounds transient and transitioning identities, exploring perspectives on migration, womanhood, activism, and community. From dynamic contemporary works to intimate personal narratives, the festival centres voices that challenge, navigate, and reimagine belonging. Supported by the BFI.
Connecting with local ESEA communities, our Hong Kong and Japan cross-over event consists of two short films and a cross-cultural mochi-making demonstration. Suitable for children. The screening includes a Golden Horse-winning short film about three generations of Hong Kong women, and the tale of a mixed-race girl by a Japanese-Chinese director.
The screening is followed by a Hong Kong and Japan cross-cultural, mochi-making demonstration. Participants may have a chance to make mochi themselves. Price includes 2 mochis and a drink.
This event is co-curated and presented in partnership with Ealing and Northfields Hong Kong Club.
Please note this is a family-friendly screening in a more casual environment: The auditorium lights will be dimmed, but not completely off, and people will be allowed to move around. There will be no ads and trailers before the screening.
