ACTONORY - TELL US A STORY

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin. Join us in the lounge for an evening of short fiction and live music performed just for you. All you have to do is sit back, relax and be entertained by stories and music that will make you laugh, cry and be inspired.  The tales and music will be performed by Simon Roberts, Nigel Lawrence and Graham Brough.  Simon is a writer of short fiction and plays. He has been shortlisted for a number of awards including the Fish Flash Fiction Prize (2025) and Plaza Prizes Short Story Competition (2024). His adaptation of Patrick Hamilton’s novel ‘The Slaves of Solitude’ premiered at The Questors Theatre in 2024. <a href="https://simonroberts.info">website</a> Nigel is a graduate of the Creative Writing MA at UEA. An award winning poet, including a highly commended in the 1997 National Poetry Competition, he has also written for the stage, and his plays ‘Hemingway in Barcelona’ (2022) and ‘The Last Testament of Nancy Cunard’ (2025) were both given rehearsed readings at The Questors Theatre. His audio drama, ‘Nothing But Complete Oblivion’(2021), written under the penname of Ian Fulton, is available on YouTube. As well as performances at the Actone open night, he has appeared at the Hay, Sherborn and Ilkley literature festivals.  Musician Graham Brough has spent 40 years on classical guitar and double bass for stage productions. He began composing for The Questors, Ealing in 2002. As a double bassist he has regularly played UK jazz festivals and venues such as the 606, Groucho and Union clubs – even the Tower of London. As a writer and session guitarist he has been recorded in Nashville, New York and London, including a residency with the producers of the UK RnB artists Mis-Teek, Honeyz and Craig David. He has recently been filmed performing his own music for a Netflix documentary production and has composed for a New York arts festival as well as Arts Council England.
