Our not-for-profit cinema, operates primarily with volunteers and a very small number of paid members of staff who are responsible for running the cinema and the cafe 7 days a week, 12 hours per day. Because of that, we unfortunately do not have the capacity to answer phone calls -which is why we do not have a phone line. We understand this can be inconvenient for some people but we do our best to assist our customers any other way we can, in person or via email.

Why is there a booking fee?

Customers with an annual Standard or Plus Membership do not pay booking fees for any online or in-person bookings. From 1st of April 2025 we had to introduce a £0.60/ticket booking fee to all online and in-person bookings to help us cover the increase in National Insurance contributions for our team. All our ticket prices have remained the same.

For the safety of our staff and customers, we don’t take any cash. We are a card only venue.

Yes, we do.

Are tickets refundable?

No, tickets are not refundable. They can be swapped to a different time, or credited to your account for the funds to be used at a later date.

You can do so online by logging into your account > Orders. This must be done 24 hours before the start time of the performance.

Can I swap my ticket to a different time?

Up to 24 hours before the start time of the programme, yes.

You can exchange your tickets online by logging into your account and clicking on Orders on the top right. Select the order and from there you'll be able to start a swap process by crediting your account. You can then use that credit to purchase your tickets.

If you didn't have an account with us when you bought your tickets, please register for a free account with the email address you used to book your tickets. You will then be able to access your tickets through your account and start the swapping process as described above.

Is the advertised time the start of the feature?

For new releases, no - the advertised time is the start of the ads and trailers pre-show, which lasts around 15 minutes, after which the feature starts.

We recommend that you arrive before the advertised time as screenings can get very busy with queues forming to access both the bar and the auditorium.

Special events and festival screenings generally don't have a pre-show or have only a short live introduction. We urge customers to arrive early for these screenings.

Does ActOne have a bar or café?

Yes! We have a café/bar which doubles as our box office.

The café is open 11:30am-10:00pm every day.

Does ActOne have memberships?

Yes, various types of membership deals are available.

Can I rent a screen at ActOne?

You can rent the auditorium on select days and times. Our auditoriums can seat 60 people and are perfect for birthday screenings, video gaming events, and more!

Why isn’t ActOne showing the films I want to see?

Film companies make movies, and film distributors decide where, when and how those movies are shown. We negotiate with the distributors to show films at ActOne and a significant portion of every ticket sold goes directly to the distributor. The small booking fee we charge goes directly to keeping the cinema running.

Unlike the big cinema chains, we are small and independent and often our programme isn’t confirmed a long way in advance. Thanks to the team at the ICO, our film programme brings you the latest quality independent films, world cinema, documentaries, film festival screenings and film-maker events, as well as the occasional quality blockbuster.

I don’t like the ads that are shown before the film.

Showing ads before a movie helps fund ActOne. They are all deemed appropriate for the film being shown and are organised, programmed and delivered to us by DCM, the market leader in UK cinema advertising.

Do you have heating and air con in the cinema?

Yes, we do.

Can I bring my school group here?

Yes, where the film certificate allows. It is best to book in advance to be sure you get all the seats you need; if it’s a large group please contact us for a discount - manager@actonecinema.co.uk

Are you accessible?

Yes, our auditoriums are fully accessible, and we have two wheelchair spaces available in both screening rooms. We are accessible via a ramp at the front of the building, and we have two accessible toilets.

Can I use e-cigarettes in the auditorium?

No, e-cigarettes - like ordinary cigarettes - are not allowed anywhere in the building.

Can I bring my own food in?

No food or drink may be consumed in the café or cinema unless purchased there. Our café/bar has an amazing offer of high quality, local baked goods, ice cream, soft drinks, snacks, wines, beers, and cocktails.

Is ActOne dog friendly?

Our cafe/bar and lounge are very dog friendly, with both water bowls and treats on hand to keep them happy.

Unfortunately pets are not allowed into the screening rooms.

Who owns ActOne?

ActOne is run by a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) that used crowdfunding and an army of volunteers to turn the disused Acton Library into an independent two screen cinema. Ealing Council owns the building and we pay rent and rates to operate in it.

We have a small staff who are paid above the London Living Wage, plus a team of volunteers who keep the cinema running. We do not have shareholders. The cinema was created over eight years by a team of volunteer directors who continue to give their time for free.
